Bursting with robust flavour and rustic texture, 1847 Stone Milling’s Organic Rye “Humour” Flour is stone milled weekly from whole rye berries sourced from Southwestern Ontario farms. Rye is a traditional cold-hardy grain known for its ability to suppress weeds naturally, making it a favourite among organic growers.

This rye flour is coarsely milled to maintain its hearty character and a bold, smoky flavour profile, complemented by subtle notes of microgreens and pumpkin. Its quill grey colour and grainy texture make it a favourite for artisan-style baking, especially in sourdough starters and dense rye breads.

Unlike conventional flours, 1847’s rye flour is never bleached, bromated, or fortified. It’s milled with the full grain—bran, germ, and endosperm intact—to deliver maximum nutrition and authentic flavour.

Took my sourdough starter from zero to hero.

After multiple attempts to create a sourdough starter, this rye flour was all I needed to get Bobert Breadford rising and ready to bake. Gusta was very communicative about having my order ready and was good enough to make it available in two parts since certain items were on backorder (quarantine baking, am I right?)
