DAIKOKU SHIN Binchotan Charcoal

Daikoku Shin

$19.00

Produced by a reputable Japanese company, these binchotan charcoal (Japanese: 大黒新備長炭) are made from the same white oak trees (ubame) that’s grown in China without any additives.  It is the closest alternative to the traditional binchotan, which sells for $300 USD for 10kg.

These are compressed, with no holes in the middle, and burns 4-5 hours instead of 1-2 hours.  They can go up to 1000°C, compared to lower grade ones that goes to only 600-700°C.  It is also “Carbon Neutral Plus”, which means the manufacturer plants more trees than they cut down in making this charcoal.  You can reuse them, or even use them to purify water, absorb odour etc.

Features:

    • Environmentally friendly.  Planned forestry and harvesting only thinned wood
    • (Japanese: 間伐材) in sustainable forests.
  • Heats like traditional binchotan.  Yields similar infrared effect and heat as natural binchotan.  Because it doesn’t flair up easily, the heat seals and permeates rather than blackens the food.
  • High-tech compression.  It doesn’t pop, thus doesn’t damage the ingredients or cause burns easily.
  • Pure and odourless.  No impurities or volatile compounds, thus achieves the same aroma and flavour yielded by traditional binchotan.
  • No wood wasted.  Production on demand, thus eliminating waste of raw wood resources.
  • Long burning hours.  Unlike conventional synthetic charcoal, there is no hole in the middle.
